The Month of Ramazan

The Month of Ramazan

1. A number of our companions, from Ahmad Bin Muhammad, from Ahmad Bin Muhammad Bin Abu Nasr, from Hisham Bin Salim, from Sa’d,
(It has been narrated) from Abu Ja'far (عليه الصلاة والسلام), said,

‘We were eighty men in his (عليه السلام) presence, so we mentioned ‘Ramazan’’.

So he (عليه السلام) said:
‘Do not be saying, ‘This is Ramazan’, nor ‘Ramazan is gone’, nor ‘Ramazan has come’, for ‘Ramazan’ is a Name from the Names of Allāh (سبحانه و تعالى) Mighty and Majestic.

‘It’ neither comes nor does ‘It’ go. But rather it is the transient (thing) which comes and goes.

But, you should be saying, ‘Month of Ramazan’, for the ‘Month’ is an adverb to the Name, and the Name is a Name of Allāh (سبحانه و تعالى), Mighty is His (جل جلاله) Mention, and it is the Month in which the Qur'an (الكريم) was Revealed, Made to be an example and a Festival’.

[Al Kafi – V 4 – The Book of Fasts Ch 4 H 2]

2. What is preferred? To break your fast then pray? or to pray first, then break your fast?

“I once asked abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s), about breaking fast if it is before or after Salat (prayer). He (the Imam) said, ‘If he (the Imam) is afraid of keeping them from their dinner, first it is breaking fast with them; otherwise, first is Salat (prayer), then it is breaking the fast.’”

Sanad: (al-Kafi) Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from ibn abu ‘Umayr from Hammad from al-Halabiy who has said the above hadith; (Wasa’il/al-Faqih) Muhammad bin ali bin al-Hussain, from al-Halabi who said the above hadith;

Grading: al-Majlisi graded the al-Kafi sanad as Hasan/Good (حسن) [Mira’at al-Uqool, Volume 16, Page 270 (See Third Image below)]; al-Khoei graded the Wasa’il/al-Faqih sanad as Sahih/Authentic (See Link)

Abu Ja`far (as) said: “In [the month of] Ramadhan, pray and then break your fast unless you are with people who are waiting to break their fast. If you are with them, do not act contrary to them and break your fast [with them] then pray, otherwise – begin with your prayers.” The Narrator asked: “and why is that?”, so he (as) replied: “Because two obligatorily actions have been presented to you – the breaking of fast, and prayers – and the more meritorious is the prayers.” He then said: “Praying while you are [still] fasting, so your prayers are written after you complete your fast, is more beloved to me.”

Sanad: Ali bin Al-Hassan, from Abd al-Rahman bin abi Narjaan, from Hamaad bin Eassa, from Hareez, from Zurarah and Fudhayl who said the above hadith

MERITS OF THE MONTH OF SHABAN

MERITS OF THE MONTH OF SHABAN

1. Imām Ja'far ibn Muhammad  al-Sādiq (as) said:
"Paradise will be incumbently decided for him who observe fasting on the first day of Sha'ban".

2. Imām Ja'far ibn Muhammad al-Sādiq (A.S.) said:
“One who fasts on first of Shaban then surely, Paradise would be made obligatory for him. If he observes two fasts, the Almighty Allāh would look at him with mercy in this world every day and night. He would also shower His mercy on him in Paradise. One who fasts for three days would get to visit Allah daily on the Divine throne in Paradise.”

[Reference: Sawaabul A’amaal & Iqaabul A’amaal]

3. THE FIRST EVE OF THE MONTH OF SHABAN:

Numerous prayers have been reported in “IQBAL” including twelve rakaats with the recitation of the Chapter on Ikhlas eleven times after the recitation of the Chapter on Al-Hamd.

4. FIRST 3 DAYS/EVE OF THE MONTH OF SHABAN:

Seyyid ibn Tawoos has reported from the Holy Messenger (sawa) that a person who fasts on the first three days of this month and on their eve recites two rakaats in each of which he recites after the Chapter on Al-Hamd, the Chapter on Ikhlas eleven times will be greatly rewarded.

5. Maahe Shabaan Thursday and Regular Amaals
i : FASTING :

A Hadith reads that the skies decorate themselves each Thursday in Sha`ban and the angels pray  saying,

“O our God, (please do) forgive those who observe fasting on this day and respond to their prayers.”

The Holy Prophet (saws) is also reported as saying,

“If one observes fasting each Monday and Thursday in Sha`ban, Almighty Allah will grant forty of his needs—twenty pertaining to this world and twenty to the Hereafter.”

ii: Give Alms/Charity  in HIS name
“What are the best deeds that should be done in Sha`ban.”

The Imam (a.s) answered,

“Almsgiving and seeking forgiveness are the best deeds in Sha`ban.

Verily, if anyone of you gives alms in Sha`ban, Almighty Allah will breed that alms in the very same way as you breed your small camels.

Hence, this alms will be as huge as Mount Uhud on the Resurrection Day.”

iii: On every Thursday Fasting is recommended &  Recite 2 Rak-a’t Salat.

In every Rak-a’t, after the recitation of Soorah Al Faatih’ah, recite Soorah Al Ikhlaas 100 times.

After the Salaam recite Salawaat 100 times
.ﺍﻟﻠّﻬُﻢَّ ﺻَﻞِّ ﻋَﻠَﻰ ﻣُﺤَﻤَّﺪٍ ﻭَﺁﻝِ ﻣُﺤَﻤَّﺪٍ

A Hadith reads that the heavens decorate themselves each Thursday in Sha`ban and the angels pray Almighty Allah, saying,

“O our God: (please do) forgive him who observe fasting on this day and respond to his prayers.”

6. Istighfar

According to narrations, the best supplications and invocations that are recited in Sha`ban are the prayers of seeking forgiveness  of Almighty Allah (i.e. istighfar).

Hence, to seek Almighty Allah’s forgiveness seventy times a day in Sha`ban is equal to seeking His forgiveness seventy Thousand times a day in the other months .Recite 70 times each day :

I seek forgiveness of Allah, and, repentant, beseech Him.

ASTAGFIRULLAAHA WA AS-ALUHUT TAWBAH

I see forgiveness of Allah who is “There is no God save  He”, the Beneficent, the Merciful; the Ever living, the Eternal, and I turn repentant to Him

ASTAGHFIRULLAAHALLAD’EE LAA ILAAHA ILLA HUWAR RAHMANO RAH’EEMUL H’AYYUL QAYYOOMU WA ATOOBU ILAYHI

7. Recite the following 1000 times, whenever the count reaches 1000, at any time within the month, the a’mal is complete:   َ

There is no god save Allah. We do not worship save “He” alone, making religion pure for Him (only), however much the disbelievers be averse.

LAA ILAAHA ILLALLAAHU  WA LAA NAA’-BUDU ILLAA IYYAAHU MUKHLIS’EENA LAHUD DEEN WA LAW KARIHAL MUSHRIKOON

8: Recite the Special Salawaat  taught by Imam Ali bin Husayn Al Zaynul Aabideen (A.S.)

9: Recite Munajat e Shabaniyah  with presence of heart.

10: Holy Prophet Muhammad  al Mustafā (S.A.W.W) said

"If a person recites 4 units (Rak’ats) Namaz in the month of Sha’ban, such that in each unit (Rak’at) after Surah-al-Hamd recites 50 times Surah-at-Tawheed,

then during death his spirit will be removed with ease, and his grave will become spacious, and on the day of Qiyamat when he comes out of his grave, his face will be shining bright like a full moon and ‘Kalmae Shahadat’ will be on his lips."

11. Fasting on last 3 days of the Month of Sha'ban

Imām Alī ibn Mūsā al-Rezā (as) said
The one who fast for last 3 days of Shaban and clubs it with the fast of Mahe Ramazan, Almighty Allāh will give him reward for two months of fasting.

[Ref:  Mafatih al Jinan]

Shabe Juma/Thursday night

Imam Muhammad al-Baqir (a.s) said:

Throughout every Thursday night, Allah (swt) orders an angel to call on behalf of the Almighty:

*Is there any believer who calls me for this world and the hereafter so that I grant His exigency?

*Is there any believer who repents of his sins before the sunrise so that I forgive him?

*Is there any believer who asks for the abundance of his sustenance, which I have made scanty, before the sunrise, so that I will expand it?

*Is there any sick believer who asks me to heal him before the sunrise so that I make him well?

*Is there any jailed believer who asks me to free him before the sunrise s that I grant him his demand?

*Is there any oppressed believer who asks me to revenge the oppressor so that I restore his rights?

*He will keep saying so until dawn.'

Furu-e-Deen

Furu-e-Deen

Branches of the Religion

The Branches of the Religion are ten:

1. Salat [Prayers]
There are obligatory Salat for a Muslim to perform, one of which is the five daily prayers. These arc obligatory on those who have become baligh. For the purpose of fulfillment of religious obligations, a boy becomes baligh after completing 15 years and a girl on the completion of 9 years (or earlier - for a detailed explanation, look at the books of Islamic laws).

2. Sawm [Fasting]
Fasting during the Holy Month of Ramadan is wajib for a Muslim. The observance of the fast of the Month of Ramadan becomes obligatory from the day following the appearance of the new moon of the month of Ramadan until the night when the new moon of the following month is seen.

3. Zakat [Poor Rate]
This is payable at the rate of 2.5%, on the value of one's capital possessions such as gold and silver coins, wheat, barely, dates, raisins, camels, cattle, and sheep according to certain conditions.

4. Khums
Paying 20% of one's yearly savings, after deducting all legitimate expenses from the earnings of that year. The Saadaat, or the descendants of the Holy Prophet have a right of half of this amount which must be paid to those amongst them who are poor and needy. The other half belongs to the 12th Imam and must be paid to his representatives (Maraja' Taqlid) or those whom they have given permission to collect on their behalf.

5. Hajj [Pilgrimage to Mecca]
Going to Mecca to visit the House of Allah for the pilgrimage, is called the Hajj. The Ha'' becomes obligatory on one who has the funds to travel to Mecca and return home, as well as the funds to maintain his family while he is gone. The Hajj is performed in the last month of the Islamic calendar, called Dhu al-Hijjah.

6. Jihad [Struggle]
Jihad means to fight in the way of Allah. Jihad literally means to strive and struggle, and this can be in various ways and different forms. It can also include fighting one's own soul to prevent it from causing a person to commit forbidden acts.

7. Amr bil Ma'ruf [Enjoining what is right]
Guiding and encouraging other people to performing good deeds and actions.

8. Nahi anil Munkar [Forbidding what is wrong]
Preventing and stopping people from committing bad actions.

9. Tawalla [Friendship]
Loving and obeying Allah (SWT), the Prophet, the Imams and Fatimah az-Zahra (Peace be upon all of them), and being a friend and kind to those who love and follow them.

10. Tabarra (Enemity]
Staying away from and disassociating with those people who are the enemies of Allah (SWT), the Prophet, the Imams and Fatimah az-Zahra (Peace be upon all of them).
